How to Move a Bed Frame Without Scratching Walls & Floors
How to Move a Bed Frame Without Scratching Walls & Floors

Bed frames can be awkward to move, especially through tight hallways or staircases. And without the right prep, they can easily leave behind dents, scuffs, or scratches on walls and floors. If you’re moving soon, here’s how to get your bed frame out cleanly and damage-free.
1. Disassemble It (As Much as Possible)
Most bed frames can be taken apart. This makes them much easier to maneuver and lowers the risk of damaging walls or doorways.
-
Remove the mattress and box spring
-
Unscrew slats, headboards, and footboards
-
Keep hardware in a labeled bag and tape it to one of the frame pieces
2. Wrap Sharp Edges & Corners
Use moving blankets, towels, or bubble wrap to cover all edges, legs, and corners. This helps protect both your walls and the frame itself.
Pro Tip: Use painter’s tape to secure the padding. It won’t leave sticky residue.
3. Clear Your Path
Plan your route before you start moving.
-
Open doors fully and prop them if needed
-
Move rugs, small furniture, and anything in the way
-
If possible, have someone help guide from the other end to avoid bumping walls
4. Protect Your Floors
Dragging a bed frame, even just across the room, can scratch hardwood or tear carpet.
-
Use furniture sliders or towels under the legs when moving across floors
-
Lift instead of pushing if you can
5. Move Slowly and Communicate
Whether you’re carrying pieces with a friend or with movers, take it slow. Communicate clearly at corners, stairs, or doorways.
6. Use the Right Tools
If the bed frame is large or heavy, use a furniture dolly or lifting straps to help control the movement and protect both the item and your space.
